our favourite things to do whilst in the area

Coed Blog

Heading off for a 2 night break at the Coed-Y-Mwstwr means there are plenty of places to visit on the way to the final destination. After a lazy start and packing all of the essentials needed for a relaxing few days away (no need to pack the dressing gowns, fluffy hotel robes are the best!) we stopped in Cowbridge to make the most of the glorious weather.

A cappuccino & a slice of home made cake at The Penny Farthing is always our go to destination followed by a meander down the High Street to window shop in some of the fab independent shops (we say window shop, we can't resist buying a treat or two!) Jenny Lamberts Gallery of local art in Veritys Court is an essential visit!

A light lunch in the Bear - do a little (lot of) people watching before the short drive over to the Coed- always looking forward to the first view of the hotel as you arrive from the countryside lane - love it !

The hotel is in such a lovely spot for exploring the town, country and coast, or staying put, relaxing by the beautiful fire place, sampling the selection of cocktails, beautiful local produce or an afternoon tea on the lawns, nothing beats it. Anyway, time to check in!

We always ask for a room with a bath, officially the most indulgent way to relax. The fluffy robes I mentioned? You guessed it, the best thing to lounge in after a long soak taking in those extensive countryside views.
We head down to dinner a little earlier than our table is ready so we can enjoy some bubbles or a chilled glass of Rose al fresco on the patio as the sun is setting. Perfect.

We order room service for breakfast (just because we can of course!) and enjoy a full Welsh Breakfast with all of the trimmings to set us up for the day ahead. We decide to take a drive along the coast down to Porthcawl, nothing beats a walk along the beach taking in the sea air to clear a fuzzy head from a little too much wine. We head around to Rest Bay, hoping to spot some huge waves and the surfers doing their thing. We couldn't resist popping in to Fablas Ice Cream Parlour on the way back to the car, the selection of flavours are so extensive! Would definitely recommend a visit.

We just had to eat in the hotel for a second evening after working up an appetite at the beach all day. A lovely relaxing evening with beautiful food and an early night.

Packing up on the final morning we head down to breakfast before we leave for the drive home. Wanting to extend our break further, we head to Dyffryn Gardens, a beautiful National Trust venue to stretch our legs in the 55 acres of Edwardian Gardens and take in the history of Dyffryn House.

A visit to the Vale and the surrounding areas is a must this Summer and the Coed-Y-Mwstwr is the perfect location for exploring everything that is on offer.
