For the Children

There’s plenty of variety on the children’s menu and our Town & Country activity pack includes our Treasure Hunt around the hotel. They can run off any excess energy in the safe grounds - or borrow one of our family board games, available from Reception, for some quality quiet time.

You’re spoilt for choice with nearby parks: the Wildlife Explorer Trail is just up the road at Parc Cefn Onn, while Bute Park in the city centre offers some retail respite, is pram-friendly and includes play features as well as cafes. An easy 15-minute drive from us is Roath Park with its boating lake, swans, playgrounds, bowling green, free tennis courts, ice creams and café a perennial favourite of Cardiff’s children for generations.

Each under 10 minutes’ away you can interact with the animals at The Meadows Farm Village or bounce, swing, fly, roll and explore at Mountain View Ranch.

Weather not great? No problem. With free entry, the National Museum of Wales is in Cardiff’s civic centre and Techniquest in Cardiff Bay has lots of interactive displays to keep them busy. And why not break up the shopping with a round of Treetops Adventure Golf in St David’s shopping centre?

If you're bringing the dog...

We want to make them as welcome as you are. As well as grounds to run around in, they are also welcome to join you in all areas except the restaurant.

As well as a host of country walks, Cardiff is a dog-friendly dream of a city. Besides all the parks and walks, lots of pubs and restaurants are dog-friendly, too - here’s some inspiration on what to do so your dog has as much fun as you do!

Shop, eat and drink in the capital

Cardiff’s city centre has its award-winning St David’s shopping centre, array of independents in beautiful Victorian arcades, Morgan Quarter and iconic indoor market for shoppers and foodies alike.

Most of our team tend to choose the independent eateries. The Spanish Bar 44 and Asador 44 are favourites and Casanova is a city institution for authentic, excellent Italian cuisine. The Potted Pig offers feasts in a former bank vault beneath street level, Pasture is best known for its steaks and its small plates sister, Parallel, changes menu daily and pairs it with wines. Curado also has a cute bar - Vermut – which is good fun: let them know it’s your first visit and they’ll provide tasters to find your perfect vermouth.

Café by day and bar by night, Bacareto is a Venetian-inspired delight and for coffee, try Uncommon Ground, Bigmoose, Little Man Coffee or Corner Coffee. Interesting independent cocktail bars include Lab 22 or book the cool speakeasy Dead Canary – if you can find the secret entrance on Barrack Lane (shhhh!).

Cardiff has a reputation for warmly welcoming everyone everywhere and also has a vibrant and well-established LGBT+ community and scene, from pubs, clubs and bars to the city’s Queer Emporium.

Walk

Take your pick among city, coast and country walks. Try a 10.6km circular trail up Caerphilly Mountain and enjoy fabulous views and wildlife as you walk among woodland, fields and streams.

Cardiff is very green, with lots of parks and gardens, even in the city centre, where the Grade I-listed Bute Park, with the River Taff running through it, taking in the former Victorian playground of Cardiff Castle with regular events as well as an arboretum and monuments to explore. Cathays Park is home to our civic centre, with plenty of gardens to explore.

Wherever you choose to go, we can provide you with a Welsh afternoon tea picnic – just let Reception know by 5pm the day before. And, if it’s the ideal picnic location you’re after, we can help with that, too.

Arts, heritage & culture

Cardiff Castle is a feast for the eyes as well as a great place to visit inside and out. Why not pick up the water taxi to Cardiff Bay with plenty of places for food and to visit, including the gorgeous Wales Millennium Centre (for a show or not) and the Norwegian Church. Live entertainment options include comedy at the Glee Club or, back in the city centre, check what’s on at the  New Theatre, while Womanby Street is the city centre’s live music hub.

Golf, Activity & Adventure

We have two golf clubs at five and ten minutes’ drive - Caerphilly and Whitchurch

If you are after something a bit more active, Cardiff International White Water offers white water rafting and tubing, paddleboarding, indoor surfing and more with activities suitable for age 6 and up.

For the adventurous there’s Zip World Tower 45 minutes away, and south Wales’ highest mountain – Pen-y-Fan – is just an hour and a quarter away in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park (just be sure to choose the route that’s right for you – some are harder than others!).
